Your child may be a picky eater or may have unpredictable eating patterns. Food preferences can and may influence appetite. Not only that, vitamin and mineral deficiencies may lead to reduced appetite. Here at Kearney Park Compounding Pharmacy , we advise concerned parents to provide vitamin supplements to their kids to be able to help supplement their appetite.

Vitamin B12

Also known as cobalamine, vitamin B12 aids in converting food into energy. It metabolizes fats and proteins. Not to mention maintaining the health of the hair, eyes, liver, and skin. Usually, B12 deficiency is prevalent among children who are not breastfed. This defect becomes apparent in the child’s toddler years, where there are feeding difficulties and refusal to eat food. Good sources of this vitamin are found in food like eggs, and other dairy products, beef, pork, and fish.

Zinc

The lack of zinc in your child’s body can lead to loss of appetite, stunted growth, various skin problems, and poor wound healing. Zinc can function to balance out the body’s PH levels as well as in digestion of proteins and carbohydrates. Good sources of food are red meat, green beans, and whole grains.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is instrumental in zinc absorption and other essential vitamins and minerals. Deficiencies can cause one to lose appetite as well as experience feelings of fatigue. This type of vitamin can help regulate kidney function and promote stronger bones. You can add to your child’s diet Vitamin D rich foods like fish, orange juice, and eggs.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it’s typical for children to be picky about their diet during their toddler years. You can give them healthy food choices rich in vitamins and minerals to fuel their day. You can also add supplements to make sure your kids get the right nutrients that they need.
